The bold new city of the South, the city on the move, the gateway to Florida, the first coastline, the river city: whatever the nickname, Jacksonville is the place to be. The Jacksonville Housing Authority (JHA) was the quasi-independent agency responsible for public and subsidized housing in Jacksonville (JHA), in the beginning, on a steep curve, extending a wide area to the north. The parade and festivities usually take place over the weekend, usually the first or second weekend of October in Jacksonville's Riverside neighborhood. As has been typical in other metropolitan areas across the country, suburban growth has continued around Jacksonville, where large areas of land were available for development, attracting more residents, businesses and jobs to the city.

Now part of an established trade network in a new and growing country, Jacksonville exported cotton, wood, oranges and vegetables and received manufactured goods from the North.
In fact, many Floridians say that living in Jacksonville, FL, is more like living in Georgia, which makes sense, considering that it's only 25 miles from the Georgia state border. In recent years, several regional transportation projects have been carried out to address congestion on Jacksonville highways. The story of Haydon Burns in Jacksonville resulted in the construction of a new city hall, a civic auditorium, a public library, and other projects that created a dynamic sense of civic pride. The city-county consolidation significantly increased Jacksonville's official population and expanded its boundaries, placing the majority of Duval County's population within the new municipal boundaries; Jacksonville grew to 900 square miles (2,300 km), making it the largest city by area in the continental United States.
The zoo features elephants, lions and jaguars, with an exhibit, Range of the Jaguar, organized by former owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Delores and Wayne Weaver. In February 1864, Union forces abandoned Jacksonville and faced a Confederate army at the Battle of Olustee, and were defeated. It is held over the three-day Memorial Day weekend and includes the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition. Jacksonville is home to Deutsche Bank's second largest operation in the U.S.
